Most keyboard, mouse, and USB device problems are fixed by reconnecting the device or replacing the batteries.
Wireless keyboard or mouse
- Replace the batteries (or charge the device).
- Check the on/off switch on the bottom.
- Unplug the small USB receiver and plug it into a different USB port directly on the computer (not a hub).
Wired keyboard, mouse, or signature pad
- Unplug it and plug it into a different USB port.
- Restart your computer with the device plugged in.
- For signature pads, close and reopen the program you're signing in, after plugging the pad in.
Keys typing wrong characters, or nothing appears
- Check that Num Lock or Caps Lock isn't on.
- Click inside the box where you're typing, then try again.
- Try typing in Notepad. If it works there, the problem is with the program, not the keyboard.
