Most Outlook problems are fixed by checking the connection status and restarting Outlook. You can always get to your email in a browser while Outlook is being fixed.
Quick fixes (try in order)
- Look at the bottom bar of Outlook. If it says Disconnected or Trying to connect, check your internet connection.
- If it says Working Offline, select the Send / Receive tab and click Work Offline to turn it off.
- Close Outlook completely. If it won't close, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, select Microsoft Outlook, and select End task. Reopen Outlook.
- Restart your computer.
- Try your email in a browser at https://outlook.office.com. If it works there, the problem is with Outlook on your computer. If it doesn't work there either, contact the Help Desk.
A specific email is missing
- Check Junk Email and the Other tab (if you use Focused Inbox).
- Search for the sender's name in the search box at the top.
- Check your rules: File > Manage Rules & Alerts.
- Not receiving county-wide or group emails? Contact the Help Desk to check that you're on the right distribution lists.
Outlook freezes when opening one specific email
Open the email in a browser at outlook.office.com instead. If it may be suspicious, report it (see How do I report a suspicious or phishing email?).
