If people can't hear you, you can't hear them, or your camera doesn't work in a Teams or Zoom meeting, the wrong device is usually selected.
Pick the right device
- In Teams, select More (…) > Settings > Device settings. In Zoom, select the arrow next to Mute or Stop Video.
- Choose the speaker, microphone, and camera you're actually using (for example, your headset instead of the laptop).
- Make sure you aren't muted in the app, and check for a mute button on your headset or its cable.
Still not working
- Unplug the headset or camera and plug it back in (try a different USB port). Then choose it again.
- Check for a camera privacy cover, or a camera on/off key on your laptop keyboard.
- Close other apps that could be using the camera or microphone (Teams, Zoom, RingCentral, the Camera app).
- Check Windows permissions: Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and Microphone. Make sure access is turned on.
- In Teams, test before your next meeting: profile picture > Settings > Devices > Make a test call.
- Quit the app completely, reopen it, and rejoin. If that doesn't work, restart your computer.
Important: Need to join right now? Join from the Teams app on your phone, or use the dial-in number in the invitation.
