Overview
You can export saved passwords or bookmarks from Google Chrome to create a backup or transfer them to another computer or browser.
Passwords export as a CSV file
Bookmarks export as an HTML file
These files can later be imported into another browser or Chrome profile.
⚠️ Important: Exported password files are not encrypted. Store them securely and delete them when finished.
Export Saved Passwords from Chrome
Step 1
Open Google Chrome.
Step 2
Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.
Step 3
Click Settings.
Step 4
Select Autofill and Passwords.
Step 5
Click Google Password Manager.
Step 6
Click Settings (gear icon).
Step 7
Click Export Passwords.
Step 8
Click Export Passwords again when prompted.
Step 9
Enter your computer login password or PIN.
Step 10
Choose where to save the file and click Save.
The file will save as:
Chrome Passwords.csv
Export Bookmarks from Chrome
Step 1
Open Google Chrome.
Step 2
Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.
Step 3
Select:
Bookmarks → Bookmark Manager
Step 4
In the Bookmark Manager, click the three dots (⋮) in the top right.
Step 5
Click Export Bookmarks.
Step 6
Choose where to save the file and click Save.
The file will save as:
bookmarks.html
Importing Bookmarks into Another Browser
Most browsers can import Chrome bookmarks.
Common supported browsers include:
Microsoft Edge
Mozilla Firefox
Google Chrome
During import, select the HTML bookmarks file you exported.
Security Reminder
Because exported password files are plain text, you should:
✔ Save the file in a secure location
✔ Delete the file after importing passwords
✔ Do not email the file
Troubleshooting
Export Password Option Missing
Your organization may have browser security policies that disable password exports.
Cannot Find Bookmark Manager
You can open it directly by typing this into Chrome’s address bar:
chrome://bookmarks/
